The installation '#Catalog of Shadows II' at PARK shows a collection of life-size female portraits, a composite universe of fragmented and grotesquely enlarged, stereotypical female figures in constantly shifting facial expressions, poses and emotions.
In the context of the exhibition, a lecture by art historian Christianne Niesten entitled 'Focus on women within art, a rewritten history' will take place on Thursday 9 November.

In the early 20th century, women did not lack talent or ambition but rather opportunities within the art world. That situation has changed now, though. After World War II, a number of women artists made pioneering contributions to the visual arts and have become inspirational examples for contemporary women artists. This has led to a changing perspective on the art canon and to the rewriting of art history.

Christianne Niesten is an art historian and lecturer in art theory at Academie voor Beeldende Vorming and Master of Arts Education at Fontys University of the Arts.
