Berendine (1991) is a performance artist, video maker, and poet. She focuses on creating experiential art, art that is meant to be felt rather than understood. She says about her work: “I am endlessly fascinated by humanity and the human process of growth. As a learned perfectionist, things like vulnerability, falling down, and getting back up are not unfamiliar to me. At a certain point, I had to face the fact that it was unsustainable. In my search to understand and learn to deal with my own humanity, I discovered a deep love for it.”
Recurring themes in Venemans’ work include learning to live with oneself, personal growth, and the tragicomedy of being human. She searches for the ground within herself — her foundation. She believes in the power of reuniting body and mind, intuition and cognition. Her work invites the audience to experience it through feeling, making the unnameable perceptible.
Berendine Venemans graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from St. Joost (Den Bosch) and participated in Talenthub Inversie. Under the mentorship of Pauline Roelants (United-Cowboy), she has exhibited and performed in various venues, including Albert van Abbehuis, De Parade, Parktheater & TAC (Eindhoven), EYE Filmmuseum (Amsterdam), and WORM (Rotterdam).
Berendine responds to the exhibition Breather. The performance will take place on Saturday 13 December at 3.30 pm.
