MAHDOKHT MOJIRI

MAHDOKHT MOJIRI

KOMMA #61 - dance, performance
12.12 2026

Mahdokht Mojiri (1998) is a Persian soprano, performer, and interdisciplinary artist from Iran, currently based in the Netherlands. Her artistic development began with the study of Iranian classical music and traditional instruments in Iran. Growing up in a context where women are not permitted to sing publicly shaped her relationship with the voice from an early age—not only as a musical instrument, but also as a means of expression, identity, and freedom.

Since 2021, Mahdokht has continued her artistic development in the Netherlands. She initially studied at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague and later continued her studies at Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg. Moving between Persian musical heritage and Western classical and contemporary musical practices has become a central part of her artistic identity.

Her current practice brings together vocal performance, Persian musical heritage, poetry, storytelling, theatre, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Persian poetry and philosophy are important sources of inspiration in her work. Rather than viewing Eastern and Western traditions as separate worlds, Mahdokht is interested in the spaces between them and in discovering new artistic languages that emerge through their encounter.

Curiosity and connection are at the heart of Mahdokht’s artistic practice. She sees artistic creation as a continuously evolving process and as a way of bringing cultures, disciplines, and people into dialogue. Through her work, she seeks to create spaces where different histories and artistic languages can meet, while continuing to discover her own voice as a singer, performer, and maker.

Mahdokht Mojiri responds to the exhibition This Being a Temporary Structure. The performance will take place on Saturday 12 December at 3.30pm.
